Conscious Decision

And Hezekiah received the letter from the hand of the messengers and read it; and Hezekiah went up to the house of the Lord and spread it before the Lord.  2 Kings 19:14

I love this guy!  He started reigning over Israel when he was 25 years old.  He served God purposely--made a conscious decision to turn everything over to the Lord.  That's how he rolled!  Another king was threatening the country and blaspheming God in the process.  He was telling the people to go ahead and surrender to him now because their God wasn't going to do anything to help them.  It would be better for them to be servants than die by his sword.

He wrote Hezekiah a letter stating what he had told his people.  The first thing Hezekiah did was walk over to the temple and lay the letter before the Lord.  Read the prayer in that chapter..but cliff note version is this:  God you are awesome and totally in charge of all things.  Your decision as to who reigns and who doesn't.  We need your help with this one.

God answered and sent an angel that night to kill 185,000 of the bad king's army as they slept.  One angel....185,000 men.  In the morning when that king saw all of the bodies, he left with his tail between his legs.  It wasn't long afterward that two of his sons murdered him and his people were glad.  They were sick of it!

Here's the point.  What if this year, 2012, I purposely brought all things before the Lord.  Everything, from which vitamin do I take all the way up to what is Your purpose for my life?  What would happen if I made a conscious decision to actually place God first and not just talk about it or wish for it?  It is going to take work on my part with studying the scriptures more.  You can't claim promises if you don't know what they are.  And believe me, there are promises in the Bible that would blow your socks off.

Just a thought, who would have thought right smack dab in the middle of 2 Kings, amidst all of the bad kings, God places a simple man who simply gives his all to the Lord and great things happen.
