And when He was come into the house, the blind men came to Him and Jesus saith unto them, Believe ye that I am able to do this? They said unto Him, Yea, Lord. Matthew 9:28
Faith is the great condition of Christ's favours. They who would receive the mercy of Christ, must firmly believe the power of Christ. What we would have Him do for us, we must be fully assured, that He is able to do so. Nature may work fervency, but it is only Grace that can work faith: spiritual blessings are obtained only by faith.
It is good to be particular in the exercise of faith, to apply the general assurances of God's power and good will, and the general promises, to our particular exigencies. All shall work for good, and if all, then this. Believe ye that I am able, not only to prevail with God for it, as a prophet, but that I am able to do it by my own power.
Still it is put to us, Believe we that Christ is able to do for us, by the power of His merit and intercession in heaven, of His Spirit and Grace in the heart, and of His providence and dominion in the world?
(Matthew Henry)
The blind men came to Jesus because they knew He was the Son of God. They asked to be healed and Christ saw their heart--their intentions--and they were sincere. Christ healed the blind men because they asked-believing and it was God's will.
Last week I had a sore throat and wasn't feeling well; with a trip planned for SC this past weekend. If I was sick, I couldn't go. My husband's mother didn't need to be around any type of sickness. So, I prayed last Thursday during my lunch hour that if He wanted me to go on the trip; then I would have to be healed of the sickness that was taking hold. If it wasn't meant to be that was fine-either way was His will.
A little while later at work I'm typing and I felt a warmness on my throat. I knew instantly that God had taken away the sore throat. I gave Him praise and took the trip this past weekend. This was the first time I had ever experienced something like this; nothing major--just a sore throat--but still God answered. He saw my heart-I was sincere in the simplicity of my request--either way was fine.
I keep hearing that the more we study and apply God's Word; the deeper our walk becomes. It's true. The more I study and learn what's in His Word, then apply the precepts to my own life--the fog clears a little. At times, I almost get a sense of His Power and who Christ is to me. It's a process, walk in His Spirit today and then I might turn away tomorrow. But I've noticed that when my flesh steps away from Christ; the turn around time is shorter; the time it takes me to turn back to Him.
Do I believe? Yea, Lord I do.
