Just Ask

Then He touched their eyes saying, According to your faith be it unto you.  Matthew 9:29

The cure that Christ wrought on them:  He touched their eyes.  This He did to encourage their faith, which, by His delay, He had tried, and to show that He gives sight to blind souls by the operations of His Grace accompanying the word, anointing the eyes with eye-salve, and He put the cure upon their faith.  According to your faith be it unto you.

When they begged for a cure, He enquired into their faith.  He did not enquire into their wealth, whether they were able to pay Him for a cure, nor into their reputation, should He get credit by curing them; but into their faith:  and now they had professed their faith, He referred the matter to that.  "I know you do believe, and the power you believe in shall be exerted for you: according to your faith be it unto you."

This speaks (1) His knowledge of the sincerity of their faith, and His acceptance and approbation of it.  It is a great comfort to true believers that Jesus Christ knows their faith, and is well pleased with it.  Though it be weak, though others do not discern it, though they themselves are ready to question it, it is known to Him.

(2) His insisting upon their faith as necessary; "If you believe, take what you come for."  Note:  They who apply themselves to Jesus Christ, shall be dealt with according to their faith; not according to their fancies, nor according to their profession, but according to their faith.  True believers may be sure to find all that favor which is offered in the gospel; and our comforts ebb or flow, according as our faith is stronger or weaker.
(Matthew Henry)

The last sentence is important; we have to know what is in God's Word in order to claim those promises.  The only way our faith becomes stronger is through prayer, time spent in God's Word, and application of what the Holy Spirit reveals to us.

Last week I kept a time journal because I felt things were out of balance in my life.  I asked the Lord to help reveal things that needed to be changed.  So I'm watching my favorite tv channel which involves a lot of reality shows--mainly about housewives of different counties.  During one of the shows as the male strippers were coming in and they were going crazy (the ladies-well if you could call them ladies) and the topic of discussion had taken a turn for the worse, I heard the Lord speak:

"Really, this is what you spend your time on?"

"But, Lord I like these shows, they have sooooo much drama in them.  Maybe the strippers won't stay long."

"You asked and I answered, now the ball is in your court."

He was right; I did ask and this was revealed to me as something I need to change.  So I gave it to Him and as of today have quit watching the shows.  Now I'm not dipping my finger into the bowl of righteousness and pointing it in your direction--this was what I prayed for.  Your prayers are different--I don't judge what people watch and don't watch--I have enough to keep watch on my plate.

But if we ask expecting an answer; He does deliver--just be prepared.
