Trusting God In and Through

"Character cannot be developed in ease and quiet.  Only through experience of trial and suffering can the soul be strengthened, ambition inspired, and success achieved."  Helen Keller

Often when we think of trusting God, we think of trusting Him for things we need or want--financial provision, physical healing, the restoration of a relationship, etc.  A true relationship of trust in God extends beyond trusting Him for something and includes trusting Him in certain circumstances or through a situation.

We need to learn to not simply look to Him for the results we desire; we need to learn to trust Him through the process of attaining them.  There was a time in my life when I focused intensely on trusting God for things, saying, "I want this, God, I want that, God," and "I need such-and-such, God."  In the midst of my requests, He began to show me that getting all those things was not the most important issue in my life at that time.

He wanted me to learn that He may not always rescue us when we want out of circumstances, but He is always with us as we walk through them.  God does not always deliver us from everything when we think He should.  Throughout His Word, we read about people who had to go through things.

"Yes, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear or dread no evil, for You are with me."   Psalm 23:4

"You caused man to ride over our heads; we went through fire and through water, but You brought us out into a rich fulfillment."  Psalm 66:12

"Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by your name, You are mine.  When you pass through the waters, I will be with you.  And through the rivers, they shall not overflow you.  When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned, Nor shall the flame scorch you."  Isaiah 43:1-2

Remember, your attitude in every situation is yours to command.  No one can force you to have a bad attitude or a good one; it's entirely up to you.  Maintain an attitude of faith, praise, thanksgiving, and positive expectation, and you will definitely come out of your situation victoriously at just the right time.
  (Joyce Myers - Happiness)

Straight roads are easier, allowing you to see for miles ahead what is coming; then you end up missing things.  Faith allows us to travel with ease, knowing that God is in control of what lies ahead.
