Active Faith

Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that He will send forth labourers into His harvest.  Matthew 9:38

The melancholy aspect of the times, and the deplorable state of precious souls should excite and quicken prayer.  When things look discouraging, we should pray more, and then we should complain and fear less.

They who will have an interest in the great salvation are carried out towards it with a strong desire, will have it upon any terms, and not think them hard, nor quit their hold without a blessing.  They who will make their calling and election sure must give diligence.  The kingdom of heaven was never intended to indulge the ease of triflers, but to be the rest of them that labour.  (Matthew Henry)

Sometimes I forget that my purpose here on earth is to work--not just secular work--but work for His Kingdom.  That the purpose of heaven is something to look forward to as Christ's work is carried out here on earth.  We are a pampered society, one in which we expect things to be easy.  When times are hard we are not to be the first ones to wring our hands in worry--but to spend more time in prayer.  Pray and pray some more.
