Are You Forgetful?

Can a maid forget and neglect her ornaments, or a bride her girdle?  Yet My people have forgotten Me, days without number.  Jeremiah 2:32

God is basically saying in this verse, "My people just forget all about Me."  People go for days and don't talk to God, then all of a sudden they have a problem and then they remember Him and come running to Him for help.  We must learn to stop ignoring God when our lives are going well and seeking Him only when we need something.  We should seek Him all the time.  We certainly need Him all the time, but due to pride, self-will, and self-reliance we don't always want Him involved in everything.

This is human nature, but as Christians we receive a new nature.  The nature of God comes to dwell in our spirit and that is why we must learn to walk by the Spirit and not by the flesh.  When we are not facing crises or having problems, we tend to think we can handle things on our own.  But the minute we have a problem that we cannot solve, we suddenly realize we need God after all.

Let's honor God by putting Him first in everything-not only when we find ourselves in situations we can't handle on our own.  (Joyce Meyer-Power Thoughts)

Our first thought when we wake and the last thought before sleep should be of Christ.  I've made a point to recite, This is the day the Lord has made-I will rejoice and be glad in it, when I wake up in the morning.  I'm still working on the night--my mind likes to go over everything that happened during the day and before I'm finished--things have been blown way out of proportion.  I've also discovered what I put into my mind before I sleep is usually what I dream about--which explains some crazy nights.

Last day of vacation (really a furlough day) and I'm looking forward to work.  I've had a blessed week of visiting family and safe travel.

This reminds me of the verse about "pray without ceasing". Haven't got that one figured out yet, either. I suspect it's an attitude of open communication all day, like a telephone that hasn't been hung up yet... leaving the lines open to talk anytime.

I guess I'm just grateful for His mercy, patience, and grace. Joyce Meyer is right... He can always count on me to come running when things are going bad... but I forget to include Him sometimes when things are just ducky.

Gotta work on that!
