I started a journal several years ago; not of my own thoughts, but writing down scriptures that spoke to my heart. That evolved into reading through the Bible using the Matthew Henry commentaries. When specific things speak to me, I write it down in my journal. At times, I will go back through and read what I have recorded. What I post in this blog comes straight from what I write in my journal. My thoughts are then reflected in the post towards the end.
I start back to work today; another school year begins. This summer has been so intense, that I feel removed from my job. My husband says that five minutes after I'm there, it will seem normal. My prayer this morning was for the year to be in God's hands and for my heart to be sensitive to the Lord's direction. There is a lot of drama that goes on in the work place and I really don't want to be involved in it this year.
As I was looking through my journal these verses caught my attention:
Make it your ambition to lead a quiet life, to mind your own business and to work with your hands, just as we told you, so that your daily life may win the respect of outsiders and so that you will not be dependent on anybody.
1 Thessalonians 4:11-12
Be wise in the way you act toward outsiders; make the most of every opportunity. Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone. Colossians 4:5-6
When you seek direction with a right spirit, God delivers--always!

I hope you have a good first day back! I'm praying for it to be fruitful year for you.
I really liked those two scriptures... about 15 minutes ago I was talking with my husband about a matter, trying to figure out how to graciously and wisely deal with a person... and those are perfect for me. Thank you for sharing them!
