When the Going Gets Tough

So David fled, and escaped, and came to Samuel to Ramah, and told him all that Saul had done to him. 1 Samuel 19:18

In flying to Samuel he made God his refuge, trusting in the shadow of His wings; where else can a good man think himself safe? If we expect answers of peace to our prayers, we must have our ears open to God's word. David me with little rest or satisfaction in Saul's court, and therefore went to seek it in Samuel's church. What little pleasure is to be had in this world, those have it, that live a life of communion with God. (Matthew Henry)

Saul had already tried to kill David twice; and David left and sought counsel with Samuel. A relationship with Christ is not a one way street. Our walk cannot consist of prayers only, reading God's word has to be a part of it. The Lord spoke to me last night; no, don't be alarmed, no burning bushes-just a thought that woke me up. The state of America has really been on my heart, this health-care debacle has me very worked up. The Lord reminded me that as Christians, we need to be careful that we are not so caught up in the policies of the world, that we forget our mission as followers of Christ. Our policy, given to us by Christ, is this:

Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age. Matthew 28:19-20

Satan would love to derail our focus and spend our time & energies on things that do not last.

I liked this post, this reminder. It make me remember an old hymn: Where Can I Go But To The Lord?

The Chorus is:
Where could I go, O where could I go,
Seeking a refuge for my soul?
Needing a friend to save me in the end,
Where could I go but to the Lord?

And Verse 2:
Neighbors are kind, I love them eve'ry one,
We get along in sweet accord;
But when my soul needs manna from above,
Where could I go but to the Lord?

I need manna from above... it's been tough lately. Thanks for the reminder!
