Socks That Are White

I've been thinking about white cotton socks lately. My mother gave me not one, but two bags of white cotton socks. Brand new and I have been wearing them ever since; with everything. It started innocently enough; school started and I had my brand new white tennis shoes. I wear casual pants and a polo to work; and I thought white socks would look good.

I like how they feel and look on my feet; crisp, clean, and slightly tight because they are new. White socks represent simplicity at its best to me--only me. Nobody really noticed my obsession with white socks until several Sundays ago. I had on black dress pants and was looking for my black dress socks-when I spotted them. My white cotton socks and I found my hand gravitating towards them and yes I put them on. Complete with my black shoes (if I knew how to upload a picture I could show you).

I did notice my husband raised his eyes slightly as we were leaving for church, but nothing was said. My daughter was horrified when she saw me at church and suddenly my socks didn't look so simple anymore. Things got a little complicated and comments were made and I heard a few snickers (I'm not talking candy here). After my weekly trip to Publix (I love the one cent item) I changed my socks. I promised my daughter that I would try and wear socks that matched.

As I reflect upon this experience I think it is all my daughter's fault. When she lived at home (before marrying my wonderful son-in-law) she was my personal clothes inspector. Then I had a flashback of my father sitting in church wearing his suit and dress shoes with white cotton socks. I can see him now dark pants, dark shoes, and white cotton socks.

I've decided it's genetic and therefore I cannot keep my promise to my daughter. So I will wear my white socks (not on Sunday) and love the way they make me feel.
You can't help something if it's destined to be.

I absolutely love reading your blog! You write so well and one of these days I wouldn't be surprised if you compiled all of these little anecdotes into a book...you should seriously think about it!

You know your lifestyle is 70% choice and 30% genetics. You can overcome your white sock obsession.
