Make a Habit of Spending Time With God

"We are what we repeatedly do.  Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit."  Aristotle

I believe one of the very best habits a person can have is spending time with God on a regular basis.  David, whom the Bible calls, "a man after God's own heart" prayed and communed with God every morning.

"My voice You shall hear in the morning, O Lord; In the morning, I will direct it to You, and I will look up." Proverbs 5:3

David lived a lifestyle of continual prayer and communion with God.  When we think of prayer and spending time with God, we must remember that it is a privilege.

"Confess your trespasses to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed.  The effective prayer of a righteous man avails much."  James 5:16

The enemy knows the dimension of power that is released from heaven to earth when believers pray, so he does everything he can to hinder our spending time with God.  Make a priority of spending time in faith-filled prayer every day.

"But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord."  2 Corinthians 3:18

Because we continue to study the Word, we are constantly being changed and transformed for the better.

"Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed Him, "If you abide in My Word, you are My Disciples indeed.  And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free."  John 8: 31-32

Making a habit of living by God's Word will enable you to know the truth, which will set you free from any kind of bondage that affects your life.  One of the best habits you can ever develop is to spend time with God.  Pray, read His Word, study His Word, and listen for His Voice.  Guard your fellowship with Him carefully and make sure it becomes a strong habit in your life.  (Joyce Meyer-Happiness)

What is it--twenty one days until you make or break a habit?  I do know that since I have committed to studying (not just reading) the Bible through; I wake up and the first thing I think about is what I'm reading that morning.  Now before you put one of these on my head:

This is me not me!
My spiritual gauge is not higher than anybody else (remember yesterday--idiot & moron) and my family knows that to be true.  But my desire has changed--the turn around when I stray off of the path is shorter.  Sometimes there is an awareness that wasn't there before and to be truthful at times I wish I was oblivious.  But God's Word is a sword--sharp and there is pain involved when things in your life are being affected.

I'm finished with this book from Joyce Meyer.  I'm in Matthew and 1 Kings with my Bible study--I alternate between Old and New Testaments.  What I'm discovering is people are people from the beginning of time.  Adam who walked with God Himself chose sin, the disciples who lived with Christ--at one time or another left Him--only to return after His death & resurrection.

Strange but it comforts me to know I'm no different.  I have the Spirit of Christ living in me and yet look how limited my life can be--do we ever truly recognize the Power?
