The Sky Fell...And I'm Still Standing

The United States was downgraded, stocks plummeted, economy is in the tank, and we have a corrupt administration to boot.  But.....I'm still standing.

Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal.  For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

*God wants us to be prosperous---but don't get crazy with it.  Material treasures should never hold first place in our hearts...that's reserved for the Lord.

*Thieves in our case can represent the government...if they demand we pay 90% in taxes we have to give it.  But that's all right...our wealth is in Heaven; congress has no hold on that!

The lamp of the body is the eye.  If therefore your eye is good, your whole body will be full of light.  But if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness.  If therefore the light that is in you is darkness, how great is that darkness!  No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other.  You cannot serve God and mammon.

*Get off the fence...get out of the boat...pick a number...make a decision on who you will serve.

*Your eye represents your focus....what's it on--this describes what you are inside.  We don't need Dr. Phil for this one.

Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on.  Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing?  Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly father feeds them.  Are you not of more value than they?  Which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature?

*Our views of life can be narrow...we are more than what we put in our mouths and the clothes we buy.  Be careful if you find these things mean more to you than they should.

*Worry gives way to fear which  paralyzes; you will never be able to move forward.

Therefore do not worry, saying, "What shall we eat?" or "What shall we drink?" or "What shall we wear?"  For after all these things the Gentiles seek.  For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things.  But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.  Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things.  Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.

*Here it is....a promise; seek God to be first in your heart and He will provide for your needs.  It might not be a mansion, or the latest car, but it will meet your need completely.

*Get rid of the worry....give it over to the Lord when it creeps up around you.   There is always going to be trouble...let God handle the stress.

So bring it on, take all of our retirement, reduce the value of our home, give me furlough days yet expect me to work longer with less pay, take away my choices of what I would like to spend my money on--make me use light bulbs that I can't see to read, call me names because I believe in what's right.....it's all good.  Because I know it's hard for you to understand...but you are not in charge and never were.  God has my back and that's a fact!
