So What Do You Know?

I know that when the light turns green there should be some movement--hopefully forward.  Instead I sit ten cars back and wonder what is going on?  Has a car broken down---medical emergency--color blind?  Yes, that must be why I'm sitting here and not moving.  The first car thinks the green light is red!  Now I know.

I know that when you hear a police siren and see flashing lights in your rear view mirror--it's probably for you.  There was a meeting last Wednesday at another school.  I came to a four way stop, which is right there at the school, could see nobody was at the other stop signs--so I did a rolling stop.  As soon as I turn right--I'm in front of the school and that's when it happened.

It's not enough that we use the flashing lights (in front of the school) nooooo we have to use a siren (heavy with sarcasm here).  

Lights still flashing the lady police officer takes her time getting out of the car.  Approaches my window and says, "Ma'am did you not see the four way stop?"

"Yes officer I did, but there were no other cars and I did apply my brakes.  I was turning right here into the school."

"You are required by law to come to a complete stop.  Are you a teacher?"

Okay--at this point they know I'm a teacher.  There is a big educator license plate on my car--right in front of their police car.  But I digress--I know enough to just be sweet--I figured I wouldn't draw their attention to my license plate.

"Yes, I am a teacher.  I'm very sorry officer, I was turning right into the school and there were no other cars.  I thought a rolling stop would be okay."

"Ma'am, can I have your license and insurance card please."

I handed her my debit card---yes--my debit card.

"I'm sorry that is my debit card; here is my license."

As she takes them back to her cruiser I can see them from my mirror.  They were laughing--not a slight laugh--but big laughing--at me--a teacher.  Did I mention I was right in front of the school and their lights were still flashing.  

"I decided to just give you a warning this time."

"Thank you so much and I will remember to come to a complete stop." 

So I start my car and pull around the parking lot to park my car.  Okay--I was turning the wrong way and almost hit-----you guessed it!  The police people; I just smiled and mouthed-sorry- as they drove past me.
