Blessed are the Meek

Blessed are the meek; for they shall inherit the earth. Matthew 5:4

They are like the blessed God himself, who is Lord of His anger, and in whom fury is not. They are blessed, for they have the most comfortable, undisturbed enjoyment of themselves, their friends, their God. They are fit for any relation, any condition, any company: fit to live, and fit to die.

They shall inherit the earth: is quoted from Psalms 37:11, and it is almost the only express temporal promise in all the New Testament. Not that they shall always have much of the earth, much less that they shall be put off with that only; but this branch of godliness has, in a special manner, the promise of life that now is.

Meekness, however ridiculed, and run down, has a real tendency to promote our health, wealth, comfort, and safety, even in this world. The meek and quiet are observed to live the most easy lives, compared with the froward and turbulent. So that all the blessedness of heaven above, and all the blessings of earth beneath, are the portion of the meek. (Matthew Henry)

Meekness is self-control over your emotions. I have actually been around someone who exhibited this quality and it's amazing. This person never reacted to anything; but took her time to respond to situations. She drew people to her because of this; just standing near her would quiet down some turbulent situations. I would like to have this character trait; but I don't know--I'm only saying I seem to be the opposite. But it is something to strive for with God's grace; something to be aware of during the day, something to look for and then who knows?

**I had an awesome day yesterday; if I had known turning fifty was this much fun, I would have done it years ago! My children did give me that dictionary I wanted--4000 words--the book is huge! I spent the day yesterday with my daughter and we had so much fun. The weather is finally turning and we were able to open some windows last night. Back to work today; but with an intention to be sensitive to others.

Meekness... I have definitely never been accused of THAT!

But I also think I have a wrong definition of it. If I am being honest, it makes me think of words like mousey, shy, scared. Guess I need to re-think that one.

How nice that you had a wonderful birthday! :-)
I'll bet you looked up "meekness" in your new dictionary. ;-)
