And the King said unto Zadok, Carry back the ark of God into the city; if I shall find favour in the eyes of the Lord, He will bring me again, and show me both it, and his habitation. But if He says, I have no delight in thee; behold, here am I, let Him do to me as seemeth good unto Him. 2 Samuel 15:25-26
Behold, here am I, as a servant expecting orders, and see him willing to commit himself to God concerning it. "Let him do to me as seemeth good to him." I have nothing to object. All is well that God does.
Observe with what satisfaction and holy complacency he speaks of the divine disposal, not only, "He can do what He will," subscribing to His power (Job 9:12) or, "He has a right to do what He will," subscribing to His sovereignty, (Job 33:13) or, "He will do what He will," subscribing to His unchangeableness, (Job 23:13,15) but, "Let Him do what He will," subscribing to His wisdom and goodness.
Note, It is our interest, as well as duty, cheerfully to acquiesce in the will of God, whatever befals us. That we may not complain of what is, let us see God's hand in all events; and, that we may not be afraid of what shall be, let us see all events in God's hand. (Matthew Henry)
David's son, Absalom, was trying to take over the kingdom and kill him in the process. David fled the city. Several of his followers took the ark out of the city and brought it to David, these verses was his reply. He was at a standstill; not knowing what God had planned for him. But that was okay, he was good whatever the outcome that God decided.
David was known to be a man after God's heart. He wasn't perfect, a lot of what happened to him was a result of bad decisions on his part. When he wasn't seeking God's direction but reacting to circumstances. This also isn't a pass for laying back and just letting things happen and not taking responsiblity for our actions.
Remember-David was a man after God's own heart. God's will was made known because David took the time to develop a relationship with God. David sought God's guidance in his life. Whatever God decides for us should be met with confidence that God does know best; we don't have to live in fear of events.

True...but sometimes easier said than done! It's at those very scary, chaotic moments that it's the hardest to remember that we're not alone...even if we sometimes feel as if we are. Right?
