Early Morning

I absolutely love the morning; early--before the sun even thinks of rising. I've always been a morning person, never did like to stay up late and sleep late. My grandmother went to bed every night at 11:30 (after the evening news) and got up every morning at 4:00--no alarm clock--ever. My parents get up early, extended family gets up early--I guess it's genetics. Now the flip side is that I am usually asleep by nine; up at 4:00-even on the weekends. Although lately I've been waking up around 3:30 and waiting for the alarm to go off.

Because of the Lord's great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. (Lamentations 3:22-23)

The Sovereign Lord has given me an instructed tongue, to know the word that sustains the weary. He wakens me morning by morning, wakens my ear to listen like one being taught. Isaiah 50:4

My favorite--Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place where He prayed. Mark 1:35

Beth Moore--We need to hear from God first thing in the morning. The moment you awake settle the issue of authority. Awaken every morning to the challenge, "Choose..this day whom you will serve!" (Joshua 24:15) Remember, any day not surrendered to the Spirit is virtually surrendered to the flesh by simple default. We will slip back into what comes most naturally to us: our sin's nature. Remember, the things of the Spirit come supernaturally to us by God's invitation.

I was thinking this morning of my childhood--remembering things. My father, before he was saved, drank a lot and was gone with his buddies. He slept it off on the weekends. After he accepted the Lord, there was a distinct difference in his behavior. He was up early on the weekends; getting us up early to start the day. I consider it a blessing to be able to see my parents change after their conversion.

You will seek Me and find Me when you seek Me with all your heart. Jeremiah 29:13

You know, I read this post several hours ago, and am still thinking about it. It is so hard for me to relate to being a morning person, since I have been a nite owl all my life! Some days I have to set TWO alarm clocks if I want to be certain to get up at a specific time.

But whatever time is our "morning", I really want God to be the first one I "hug" in the morning. That is one of my favorite verses, about His mercies being new every morning.
