Hope in a Hopeless World

This I recall to my mind, therefore have I hope. It is of the Lord's mercies that we are not consumed, because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning; great is Thy faithfulness. Lamentations 3:21-23

That, bad as things are, it is owing to the mercy of God that they are not worse. Therefore there is hope that they might be better. We are not consumed refers to the church--believers in Christ. The church of God is like Moses' bush, burning yet not consumed; whatever hardships it has met with, or may meet with, it shall have a being in the world to the end of time. (Matthew Henry)

Just when you think things can't get any worse in the world, just turn on the television. Always something happening and it seems like we are on the brink of disaster at any minute. This verse grounds me; gives me comfort. Matthew Henry was born in the 1500's and he wrote a commentary on every verse in the Bible. This was written in 1712. Our society lives in the moment, everything is magnified. There has been conflict since the creation and God is faithful with His promises.

Ireland...and Canada.....and New York....oh, my!

Great post, as always....and yes, so much of our troubles can be put in perspective once you look at the big picture. I don't like to watch the news, though....it's too dramatic and they seem more interested in ratings than in telling the true story. Have you noticed this?
